Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal (barnesandnoble.com).

Bleeping, bleep, This book is one of my favorite books this year! I picked this book up and could NOT put it down!

Evie is an amazing character. What I love about her is that she is funny, smart, sassy, loyal, beautiful, just all around awesome. She was cracking me up with her bleeps and her love of pink tasers.

Lend is the one Evie should be with. They have so much in common and Lend is sexy and smart and caring. How can an invisible dude be sexy? Not exactly sure but he does it! Although Lend is the one Evie should be with Reth is still in the competition. Sexy faerie, oh yeah.

This story is beautiful and addictive. This book is a laughing, crying, loving every minute of the read and begging-for-more-please kind of book! It's got a lighthearted feel and I love that.

I cannot wait for the Supernaturally, which will be out Fall of 2011 and will be the second book in this trilogy. White is officially one of favorite authors after this book.

Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston

Since the dawn of time, the Faerie have taken. . . .

Seventeen-year-old actress Kelley Winslow always thought faeries were just something from childhood stories. Then she meets Sonny Flannery. He's a changeling—a mortal taken as an infant and raised among Faerie—and within short order he's turned Kelley's heart inside out and her life upside down.

For Kelley's beloved Central Park isn't just a park—it's a gateway between her ordinary city and the Faerie's dangerous, bewitching Otherworld. Now Kelley's eyes are opening not just to the Faerie that surround her, but to the heritage that awaits her . . . a destiny both wondrous and strange (Barnesandnoble.com).

First off, I want to say that the title of this book rocks and I really like the cover. I enjoyed reading this book but it wasn't earth-shattering (it wasn't the page-turner I thought it might be). I did like how it is a little different than what I have been reading. What I really liked about it is the main character, Kelley, is a struggling actress. The author is an actress too, so maybe that's where the inspiration came from. I also really like the Shakespeare theme. There are a few series that have the Shakespeare theme and I do like it.

One other thing that I really liked was the frequent use of the word "cacophony". I think I counted its use at least three times and I hardly hear that word very often.

What I didn't like about it was some parts of the story were a little lame. For instance, when Kelley finds out that she's a faerie (which would be super freaky in my opinion!) she has hardly the reaction I would think. She's just kind of okay with it. Then, when she calls her aunt, who stole her out of the faerie land, her aunt just kind of acts like, "yeah you caught me, no biggie". When Kelley started getting exposed to the faerie world, I would also expect her to ask more questions but she just kind of expects it. It felt a little off to me.

I thought some character development was a little lacking too. I would have liked to know more about the characters. I felt this aspect was a little grazed over.

This was a debut novel for the author and there is more to come because this is number one in Livingston's series. I am excited to read the next book, Darklight. I want to see if some of the things that I didn't like about the book improve.

All-in-all this was an enjoyable read and I hope the rest of the series is fun to read too.

Wicked Lovely by Mellisa Marr

Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.

Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in mortal world. Aislinn fears their cruelty—especially if they learn of her Sight—and wishes she were as blind to their presence as other teens.

Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.

Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer.

Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.

But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King who has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost—regardless of her plans or desires.

Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working anymore, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

Faerie intrigue, mortal love, and the clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in Melissa Marr's stunning 21st century faery tale (Melissa-marr.com).

This is book one in the Wicked Lovely series. I am really excited to dive into this series. I loved the characters, the plot was pretty good, but the writing wasn't something I really dug. The writing was good but there was something about the style that I didn't really like. But, despite that, the book was a page-turner and very entertaining to read. I am excited to see how the next books turn out.

I really liked Ash. I like her nickname Ash better than her full name Aislinn. She is strong and I like that in a main character. I really liked the development or Ash and Seth's relationship. It will be interesting to see how Seth develops in the next books. I had conflicting thoughts over Keenan the whole time. I didn't know if I loved him or hated him. At first I didn't like Donia but I grew to like her. I began to feel bad for her. Even at the end, I still felt bad for her.

What else can be said? I think I am about to get into another great series!
